Number of hospitalizations with Covid-19 in Moscow declines by 40% over past 2 weeks - Sobyanin

MOSCOW. May 27 (Interfax) - The number of patients hospitalized in serious condition with the new coronavirus in Moscow has declined by 40% since May 12, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.

"Since [May] 12, not only has the number of hospitalizations of patients in serious condition not grown, it has actually declined by 40%, which definitely is a certain indicator," Sobyanin said during a videoconference with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.

The number of Covid-19-associated pneumonias registered at specialized centers in Moscow has declined also by 40%, he said.

"And the number of newly-recorded Covid-19 patients has also gone down by more than 40%. We actually had the lowest figure today, 2,140 people," Sobyanin said.

At the peak of the epidemic, Moscow recorded more than 6,000 Covid-19 patients daily, he said.

"All of this gives us grounds to say that the measures we have taken after May 12, such as the reopening of the industrial and construction sectors and some other measures, simultaneously with quite tight sanitary requirements, have enabled us not only to stabilize the situation, but also to significantly improve it. And we can speak about further steps out of the crisis today," Sobyanin said.
