Passenger turnover on Russian rails rises 2.7% in Jan - RZD
MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Passenger-turnover on Russia's railways increased 2.7% year-on-year in January, the Russian Railways (RZD) press service reported, citing company President Vladimir Yakunin.
Passenger turnover was up 2.7% on intercity routes and 2.8% on commuter routes. The report did not provide absolute figures.
"We have succeeded in reversing the trend toward declining passenger volume, which has been maintained at last year's level," Yakunin said at a meeting on Wednesday.
One of the main goals in 2011 is to expand ticket sales channels. The volume of electronic ticket sales rose 120% in January 2011 year-on-year, he said.
RZD previously said it targeted passenger turnover to rise 1.1% to 139 billion passenger-kilometers in 2011.
