Gold bullion output up 8.57 pct in 2010
Shanghai. February 10. INTERFAX-CHINA - China produced 340.88 tons of gold bullion in 2010, up 8.57 percent from 2009, the China Gold Association (CGA) announced Feb. 10.
China's gold miners produced a total of 280.03 tons of gold bullion and compound gold over the period, up 7.27 percent year-on-year.
Gold bullion produced by smelting companies, including nonferrous metals smelters and gold refineries, using compound gold, scrap gold and imported ore as feedstock, grew by 8.57 percent year-on-year to 171.25 tons.

Nonferrous metals smelters produced 68.93 tons of gold bullion over the period, up 16.35 percent year-on-year. The five leading nonferrous metals smelters accounted for 75.45 percent of the total gold bullion produced by such companies.

Gold refining companies produced 102.32 tons of gold bullion during the year, up 11.29 percent from 2009. The top five gold refining companies accounted for 85.91 percent of the total gold bullion produced by such companies.

Based on current gold prices, China's total gold output for 2010 was valued at RMB 229.29 billion ($34.82 billion), up 66.72 percent from 2009.
Overall industry profit increased 78.19 percent year-on-year to RMB 24.87 billion ($3.78 billion).
The Shanghai Gold Exchange, China's sole precious metals spot trading platform, reported a gold trading volume of 6.05 million kilograms in 2010, up 28.48 percent year-on-year.
Gold trading on the Shanghai Futures Exchange reached a total volume of 497,470 kilograms in December, while trading turnover stood at RMB 150.98 billion ($22.93 billion).
