China adds reporting requirement for bulk importers of pork, mutton and beef
Beijing. February 17. INTERFAX-CHINA - The Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced Feb. 15 that importers of bulk pork, mutton, beef and associate products such as liver are subject to new reporting requirements.
Beginning April 1, bulk importers of such goods must report them to the China Chamber of Commerce of Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce Animal By-Products, the announcement said.
China's beef imports rocketed by 93 percent year-on-year to 30,595 tons in the first 11 months of 2010 while mutton imports fell 18.1 percent to 51,981 tons in the same period, MOFCOM said.
China's pork imports between January and November last year totaled 787,680 tons, up 68.4 percent year-on-year.
Since 2008, companies in China have been required to report bulk imports of agricultural products, including soybean, rapeseed, soybean oil and palm oil.
