Nord Stream starts Line 2 construction
MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Nord Stream AG gas started to build Line 2 of the gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea, the company said in a press release.
"Pipeline construction is fully on track. Over 1,000 kilometres of Line 1 have been laid in the Baltic Sea and pipe-laying works have been already completed at the landfalls for Line 2. The project has all the necessary permits, and all pipes and construction capacities have been procured," the company said.
"Gas deliveries will start in Line 1 before the end of 2011, and Line 2 will be launched in 2012," said Matthias Warnig, Managing Director of Nord Stream AG.
The plan is confirmed by all Nord Stream shareholders.
The two lines of the 1,223-km Nord Stream will each be capable of pumping 27.5 bcm of gas per year.
Nord Stream AG, the project operator, is owned by Gazprom (51%), BASF/Wintershall and E.ON Ruhrgas (15.5% each) and Gasunie and GDF Suez (9% each).
