Anhui boosts rural medical insurance reimbursement rate

Shanghai. February 23. INTERFAX-CHINA - Anhui Province has increased reimbursement rates for inpatients under the rural medical insurance program by 5 percentage points on 2010 figures, the provincial health department announced Feb. 23.

The exact rate of reimbursement varies depending on the type of medical institution. Figures from the department show that last year Anhui's rural insurance holders were reimbursed 63 percent of total medical expenses in township clinics and 52 percent in county hospitals.

The ceiling for inpatient reimbursement under the scheme has also been raised from RMB 80,000 ($12,158) in 2010 to RMB 100,000 ($15,198) this year, the announcement said.

The province also increased its reimbursement rate for essential drugs, which is now 10 percentage points higher than for regular drugs, compared with only 8 percent higher last year.

The government subsidy for births in rural areas grew to RMB 500 ($75.99) from last year's RMB 300 ($45.59), while the reimbursement rate for artificial limbs and hearing aids was kicked up to 40 percent from 35 percent last year.
