Russia to launch two more GLONASS satellites in 2011 - general

PLESETSK, Russia. Feb 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will launch two more navigation satellites this year in addition to one launched on Saturday, the chief of the country's Plesetsk spaceport said.

Maj. Gen. Oleg Maidanovich, who was talking to reporters after a GLONASS-K satellite went to orbit from Plesetsk, was referring to GLONASS-M satellites to be carried into space by Soyuz 21-B rockets with Fregat upper stages, a source at the spaceport, located in the Arkhangelsk region, northern Russia, explained to Interfax-AVN.

The launches of the GLONASS-M satellites, which, just as the GLONASS-K, will form part of Russia's Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS), have preliminarily been scheduled for July and October, the spokesman said.

The two satellites will also be launched from Plesetsk.
