China's trade in electronic information products hits $86.9 bln for January

Shanghai. February 28. INTERFAX-CHINA - China's export turnover of electronic information products in January rose 31.5 percent year-on-year to $49.1 billion, according to figures released Feb. 25 by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Imports, meanwhile, reached $37.8 billion last month, up 38.8 percent on an annual basis.

Telecommunications equipment exports rose by 66.4 percent from 2010 to $9.2 billion, largely on the back of booming handset exports, which surged 88.8 percent to $4.2 billion.

Computers generated $16.3 billion, up 12.6 percent over the previous year, with laptop exports accounting for $6.7 billion. Home appliance exports totaled $7.3 billion.

Exports of electronic components and devices grew by 37 percent and 43 percent, respectively, year-on-year, to roughly $600 million each.

China's top three electronics exports last month were laptops, handsets and integrated circuits.

MIIT attributed the rise in growing overseas demand and a scramble by domestic companies to boost exports before the start of the Spring Festival holiday earlier this month.
