GM-AvtoVaz launches production line after three-day shutdown
SAMARA. March 9 (Interfax) - The joint venture GM-AvtoVaz has restarted production of Chevrolet Niva cars, which was suspended from March 3 to 5 owing to insufficient components for assembly, the company told Interfax.
"As planned, including the holiday days in March 6-8, production was launched today, March 9," a company representative said.
He said that the enterprise has restarted regulator production operations utilizing two eight-hour shifts, five days a week.
It was earlier reported that this had been the second suspension of production at the JV owing to insufficiency components in 2011. The company's production line was halted for three days owing to problems with one of its component suppliers in February.
GM-AvtoVaz intends to produce around 52,000 cars in 2011. The company increased output by 60% in 2010 to 37,000 cars.
