Medvedev hopes Russia's accession to WTO will be decided this year with U.S. support

GORKI. March 9 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has voiced hope that the question of Russia's accession to WTO will be settled this year with energetic support from the United States.

"It seems to me that our economic relations significantly lag behind political. The absence of Russia in WTO is a hindrance is this sense and I hope that this year these processes will be completed with active support from the United States," Medvedev said at a meeting with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

He spoke of the good results stemming from the improvement of relations between the two countries last year, the ratification of the new START Treaty and added that the presidents of the two countries worked well on the issue. Biden's efforts also made a significant contribution, Medvedev said.

He said that this is a good result for both Russia and the United States as well as for general security on the planet.

"At the same time we have bilateral matters that are also very important for our two nations. And I regard your visit to this country in this very context," Medvedev said.
