Industry and Trade Ministry considering options for stimulating truck sales in Russia

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - Russia's Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the framework of a program for upgrading the country's commercial vehicle fleet slated for launch in 2012, is considering two options for stimulating truck sales, the director of the ministry's department for the automotive industry and agricultural machine-building, Alexei Rakhmanov, told journalists on the sidelines of an automotive forum organized by the Adam Smith Institute.

Rakhmanov said that one option would be assisting small and medium-sized businesses. The second option would be leasing programs, which would involve state leasing companies. Rakhmanov added that passenger bus services might also take advantage of cofinancing programs from regional and federal budgets in order to upgrade their vehicle fleets

"2012 is the guide year for us. The program's form is in the final stage of discussion," he said when asked when the program will be launched.
