Disaster in Japan not affecting Vladivostok port cargo flow

VLADIVOSTOK. March 16 (Interfax) - The natural disaster and its consequences in Japan have not had an effect on cargo-flow at OJSC Vladivostok Sea Trade Port (VSTP), the company's deputy general director, Mikhail Chizhmakov, has told Interfax.

The port is now completing the processing of its fleet that carried shipments to Japan before the earthquake, Chizhmakov said. At the present time, there is only specific information on the departure from the stricken country of a vessel carrying new Japanese automobiles being postponed.

"There is no information now on other ship departures. There has also been no announcement from VSTP clients of other adjustments affecting export cargoes," he said.

The port's diversity allows it to quickly react to changes in the structure of cargo-flow, but for now there is no reason to suppose that port operations will need to undergo serious adjustment, Chizhmakov said.

OJSC Vladivostok Sea Trade Port is among the biggest stevedore companies at the port at Vladivostok..
