Akkuyu NPP based on most advanced safety standards, Medvedev tells Erdogan
MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - The nuclear power plant Akkuyu for Turkey will be capable of enduring the most devastating earthquakes, and its design is in no need of safety adjustments, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
"The project to be implemented in Akkuyu radically differs from nuclear power plants operated in Japan in newness and safety guarantees. Protection principles are different there. Even in connection with what has happened in Japan no radical reconsideration of safety standards is involved or should be done. They are sufficient," Medvedev said at a press conference after talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan.
