Output of food products up 0.4% in Russia in Feb - Rosstat

MOSCOW. March 18 (Interfax) - Russia increased output of food products, including beverages and tobacco, by 0.4% year-on-year in February and 2.3% in January-February, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported.

The production of meat and meat products increased 8.3% year-on-year to 85,800 tonnes in February, the processing and tinning of fish and other seafood products - 5.9%. Output of frozen fish fillets increased 67% to 11,600 tonnes, of frozen fish (excluding herring) - 4.2% to 240,000 tonnes, of frozen herring - 120% to 21,600 tonnes.

Output of dairy products increased 0.3%. The production of processed liquid milk was down 0.7% at 386,000 tonnes.

Processed and tinned potato was down year-on-year at 7,200 tonnes in February.

February flour production decreased 2.3% to 696,000 tonnes, that of buckwheat groats 51.5% to 13,400 tonnes.

The production of alcoholic beverages, excluding beer, was also down in February: vodka by 24.2%, cognac by 2.4%, beverages containing up to 25% alcohol by volume by 7.3%, and table wines by 21.7%. Light beer output was up 16.2% at 636 million liters.

Cigarette output dropped 15.9% to 25.1 million units.
