Serbia supports need for compromise with Russia on EU energy package
BELGRADE. March 23 (Interfax) - Serbia supports the need to find a compromise with Russia in relation to the EU's third energy package, Serbian President Boris Tadic said at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
"I don't see a possibility for the European Union to resolve its energy relations without partnership relations with Russia. In that context we may find an answer to all questions connected with the third energy package," Tadic said.
Putin said the energy package "needs reworking at a minimum," as it is at odds with the fundamental documents on cooperation that Russia and the EU have signed and "will harm the cooperation of Russia overall and Europe in the energy sphere."
Some of Russia's arguments have not received much of a welcome in Brussels, Putin said, citing his most recent visit there. However, he expressed confidence that a compromise would be reached.
