Modernization of Moscow railways, airports needs at least 30 bln rubles - Yakunin

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax) - The modernization of railways running from downtown Moscow to the city's outlying airports will require at least 30 billion rubles worth of investment, OJSC Russian Railways (RZD) President Vladimir Yakunin told the press on Tuesday.

"To modernize the incoming railway lines, each will need 10 billion rubles at the very least. There are three of them," Yakunin said.

Sources of financing for these projects are being discussed, he said. "Moscow is involved in this. [Prime Minister] Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] has been briefed on this position. Partly from the standpoint of supporting the existing system, RZD will also involved in its modernization," he said.

At issue is the reconstruction of rapid transit lines, and also ensuring comfortable and secure transportation, Yakunin said.
