Hyundai, Ford plants in St. Petersburg lay on additional work-shifts

ST. PETERSBURG. April 4 (Interfax) - Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus has added a second work-shift and CJSC Ford Motor Company a third at their plants in St. Petersburg.

Hyundai added its second shift due to having received orders for more than 14,000 Hyundai Solaris. This will allow the company to increase output to 9,000 vehicles per month and cut the waiting time for buyers, the company said in a statement.

Hyundai Motor Rus plans to add a third shift by year-end. The St. Petersburg plant has been engaged in the serial production of the budget-model Solaris since this past January.

Ford Motor Company added its third shift to keep up with rising demand for its Focus and Modeo models, the company told Interfax.

The Leningrad Region Ford plant opened in the summer of 2002 and builds the Focus in four body styles: three and five-door hatchbacks, a station wagon, and a sedan. It also builds Mondeo sedans. The plant employs 2,700 workers.
