Renault boosts sales by almost 100% in Q1, March - by 74%

MOSCOW. April 4 (Interfax) - French carmaker Renault sold 31,031 cars on the Russian market in January-March 2010, including 13,236 cars in March, the company said.

The company shipped 16,110 cars to Russian consumers in the first quarter (including 7,605 units in March). Therefore, sales increased by 92.6% and March - 74%.

"The Renault Logan remained the [sales] leader (with 7,115 units). In second place is the Renault Sandero with 3,489 cars sold. The Fluence and Megane hatchbacks also posted record results for the month since the start of sales on the Russian market (1,287 cars and 682 cars, respectively)," Renault said in a statement.

The Avtoframos plant (Renault's enterprise in Moscow) produced 31,055 cars since the start of the year. "At the end of March 2011, Renault's plant in Russia crossed the threshold of 600 cars produced a day. Therefore, [the plant] reached an important step in implementing its production plans by achieving full production capacity at 160,000 cars a year," the company said.

OJSC Avtoframos was formed by Renault in 1998 with the Moscow government. The enterprise produces Logan, Sandero, Sandero Stepway, Fluence and Megane. The plant's design capacity is 160,000 cars a year. Avtoframos employees 3,700 people.
