Kazakhstan boosts freight turnover 17% in Q1
ASTANA. April 12 (Interfax) - Freight turnover in Kazakhstan totaled 92.72 billion tonne-kilometers in January-March 2011, up 16.7% from the same period of 2009, the State Statistics Agency said.
Freight by rail grew 8.9% to 50.666 billion tonne-kilometers in the period, truck freight rose 31.5% to 17.273 billion tonne-km, sea freight rose 74.5% to 698.1 million tonne-km and air freight rose 29.4% to 21.4 million tonne-km.
Pipeline freight rose 24.3% to 24.062 billion tonne-km, including oil pipelines - 15.725 billion tonne-km, up 11%, and gas pipelines - 8.337 billion tonne-km, up 60.2%.
Passenger turnover amounted to 38.137 billion passenger-kilometers in January-March 2011, up 26% from a year earlier.
