China invests $38.79 bln in Australian mining in the past two years

Shanghai. April 13. INTERFAX-CHINA - China deployed a total of AUD 38 billion ($38.79 billion) for the purchase of Australian mines and mining rights in 2009 and 2010, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced April 12.

The MOFCOM announcement, citing figures from Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB), said 90 percent of China's Australian investments over the period were made in the mining sector.

China's investment in Australian mining projects during the two-year period is triple the investment made from 2001 to 2008, the announcement added.
