China may have natural gas surplus by 2015 - expert

Beijing. April 15. INTERFAX-CHINA - China may have a surplus of natural gas by 2015, according to an expert speaking at The 6th Annual Asia Gas Congress in Beijing April 13.

China's demand for natural gas is expected to reach 230 billion cubic meters (bcm) by 2015, while domestic output combined with imports is anticipated to fall between 250 and 290 bcm, said Xu Bo, senior economist for Market Department of Research Institute of Economics and Technology under China National Petroleum Corporation.

By 2020, the country's natural gas demand is expected to top 290 bcm, with combined domestic production and imports totaling between 420 and 450 bcm, added Xu.
