Tymoshenko being questioned on 2009 gas contracts with Russia
KYIV. April 20 (Interfax) - A special investigator is questioning former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko as a suspect on a criminal case dealing with abuse of office during the conclusion of gas supply agreements with Russia in 2009.
It has been determined that Tymoshenko made the decision on signing the gas contracts single-handedly, which inflicted damages on the state's interests surpassing 1.5 billion hryvni, the Prosecutor General's Office said in a statement.
Other investigative procedures on this case are also under way, it said.
It was reported earlier that the Prosecutor General's Office had opened another abuse of office criminal investigation against Tymoshenko regarding the 2009 gas contracts.
Tymoshenko, however, said she did not receive a relevant resolution from the Prosecutor General's Office.
First Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin said in a television program several days ago that Tymoshenko had personally told Naftogaz Ukrainy head Oleh Dubyna to sign the contracts.
