China Huadian eyes year-end startup for Xinjiang wind farm

Shanghai. April 22. INTERFAX-CHINA - China Huadian Corp. (Huadian), one of the country's largest power producers, is building a 49.5 megawatt (MW) wind farm in Hami City, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, the municipal government announced April 22.

The RMB 436 million ($66.47 million) wind farm will be able to generate approximately 117.56 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity yearly, according to the Hami government. It is scheduled to go on-line by the end of the year, the government added.

According to a strategic cooperation deal signed between Huadian and the Xinjiang government in 2010, Huadian will operate 350 MW of installed capacity by the end of 2011. By 2015, the company will increase installed capacity to 1,000 MW, followed by 3,000 MW by the end of 2020.

Huadian will also install 150 MW of solar power projects in the region between 2011 and 2015, according to the strategic cooperation deal signed last year.
