Skolkovo project should become recognizable brand - Medvedev

MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said the project Skolkovo, which is currently not widely known, should become a recognizable world brand.

"The project participants have not succeeded in the information support of the Skolkovo center. Public opinion polls indicate that only about 40% of our citizens have an idea of Skolkovo, which is very little given the scales of the project," Medvedev said at the joint meeting of the modernization commission and the Skolkovo guardian council on Monday.

"Skolkovo is not some get-together, it's a public project, a project that should eventually unite all modernization efforts. For this reason, citizens should be fully aware of what is being done and how these programs are financed. This information should be absolutely open and public," Medvedev said.

"It is vitally important to promote information on Skolkovo abroad, where people don't know enough about the project," Medvedev said, adding that he raises the issue of Skolkovo in virtually every meeting with foreign leaders and the issue draws "serious interest."

"Skolkovo should eventually become one of the most recognizable and clear Russian brands, or we should not do it at all. It should become a brand known to everyone," Medvedev said.

"We should not make new doors and windows to Europe. Generally, these doors are wide open. We have to admit that, instead of saying that no one is letting us go anywhere," the president said.

"We should work with our partners right, in a unified technological and innovative space," Medvedev said, adding that the Skolkovo project should play a key role in that.
