Iron ore stockpiles rise slightly at China's ports
Shanghai. May 13. INTERFAX-CHINA - Iron ore stockpiles at China's 30 major ports rose by 0.67 percent week-on-week to 82.96 million tons in the week beginning May 9, including 14.17 million tons of Indian iron ore stockpiles which fell 0.70 percent, according to May 13 figures from Shanghai-based Mysteel Information.
According to Mysteel, a weak steel market kept iron ore prices low this week.
The price for Indian iron ore grading between 63 and 63.50 percent from iron ore miners currently stands between $186 and $188 per ton, a drop of $4 from the previous week.
The quoted price for Indian iron ore grading 63.5 percent at China's major ports stands between RMB 1,350 ($207.64) and RMB 1,360 ($209.18) on May 13, down RMB 10 ($1.54) from a week ago.
Iron ore freight rates from Brazil's Tubarao port to Qingdao port fell by 2.12 percent during the week to reach $18.89 per ton on May 13. Freight rates from western Australia to Qingdao stood at $7.37 on May 13, down 4.41 percent from the previous week, the Mysteel figures show.
