Inter RAO, Electrobras sign cooperation memorandum in Moscow
MOSCOW. May 17 (Interfax) - Russia's Inter RAO UES and Brazil's Electrobras have signed a memorandum of understanding
The document was signed by Inter RAO's CEO Boris Kovalchuk and Electrobras Director Jose Antonio Muniz Lopes.
The memorandum was signed in the presence of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Brazilian Vice President Michel Temer.
The signed memorandum is aimed at preparing joint energy projects in Brazil and third countries.
An Inter RAO press release issued after the document was signed says that its aim is the companies jointly studying projects involving the production and transmission of electric power on Brazil's regional and international markets as well as the possibility that they be implemented jointly, along with the establishment of technical and economic partnership. In particular, the parties will look at the possibility of expanding the export of Russian power equipment.
On Tuesday, the Russian-Brazilian high-level commission for cooperation, chaired by Putin and Temer, held its fifth meeting in Moscow.
The commission was set up in 1997. The previous meeting was held in 2006.
