Rosneft mulling legal options after collapse of BP deal - Sechin

PURPE (Yamalo-Neneft autonomous district). May 18 (Interfax) - Rosneft is considering legal action in connection with the collapse of its deal with BP for a share swap and joint Arctic operations, Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin told journalists.

"Rosneft is studying the possibility of filing claims, and I think that if the company's legal team says the outlook is positive, then of course we will implement that," he said.

"This is about defending the interests of company shareholders. We put off our plans for development of the Arctic for almost six months. The corporate conflict between the British and Cypriot shareholders was not in our purview, but in that of the second partner's," he said.

Sechin, who was previously Rosneft's board chairman, said he does not view the collapse of the Rosneft/BP deal as a personal defeat.

"On the contrary, Rosneft is working very effectively," Sechin told journalists.
