Import should be licensed only for products vital for national security - Putin
MINSK. May 19 (Interfax) - An agreement on regulating export controls in the Customs Union countries should not conflict with the current export control practices, while import should only be licensed with respect to products that are vital for providing national security and for the purpose of complying with international obligations, said Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
"Obviously, the introduction of licensing regulations for dual-purpose products will create barriers for the import of advanced foreign technologies and high-tech products to the Customs Union. I believe, none of us is interested in this," Putin said at an EurAsEC (Eurasian Economic Community) Inter-State Council session.
The CU member states' obligations arising from their participation in multilateral export control regimes do not involve control over import, he said.
