Dvorkovich: new IMF chief will most likely be European, but compromise figure is possible
ST. PETERSBURG. May 20 (Interfax) - A European will most likely be named to head the International Monetary Fund (IMF), but a representative from an emerging economy is also a possibility, Russian presidential aide Arkady Dvorkovich said.
"Definitely, there is a chance of that," Dvorkovich told journalists on the sidelines of a legal forum in St. Petersburg on Friday, commenting on the possibility a representative of an emerging market might be named to the post.
"Given the current disposition of forces and votes at the IMF, the European countries have a better chance," he said.
"But other, compromise options are a possibility," he said.
The head of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, Grigori Marchenko, has been nominated for the post as the unified candidate from the CIS.
