Changes to social tax rate should be more than cosmetic - Medvedev
GORKI. May 23 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev intends to hold a separate meeting on changes to the rate of the unified social tax, he said at meeting with Deputy Prime Minsiter and Finance Ministry Alexei Kudrin on Monday.
At the meeting Medvedev said that he had instructed the government to present its proposals for changing the unified social tax rate.
"I know that the government is working on this issue. I would like to remind you that my instruction stipulates changing the general rate and this should, naturally, affect all tax payers and not just special categories," the president said.
He added: "I would like that you all reach agreements at an upcoming government meeting and come to me with the necessary proposals. I will meet with separately with you in this regard".
Medvedev said that "cosmetic changes [to the tax] are unnecessary".
