Prosecutors argue against reduced prison sentence for Khodorkovsky, Lebedev
MOSCOW. May 24 (Interfax) - State prosecutors see no reason for reducing the prison sentence in the second Yukos case against former Yukos co-owner Mikhail Khodorkovsky and ex-Menatep chief Platon Lebedev, despite the noticeable decrease of the extent of their alleged embezzlement.
"Given the decrease by state prosecutors of the size of the embezzlement, we insist on the decrease of the size of oil theft by the defendants, stated in the verdict," Prosecutor Valery Lakhtin told the court.
At the same time, state prosecutors "do not see reasons for reducing the prison sentence for Khodorkovky and Lebedev," he said.
The Khamovnichesky Court has earlier sentenced each defendant to 14 years at a medium-security prison for stealing oil and laundering proceeds from its sale.
