State reps could get seven seats on Gazprom board - paper

MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - Timur Kulibayev, the head of Kazakhstan's National Welfare Fund, and Vladimir Mau, Rector of the Russian Academy of National Economy, could replace Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko and Economic Development Minister Elvira Nabiullina on the board of directors at Gazprom , the Kommersant newspaper said.

Gazprombank chief Andrei Akimov is also nominated as a government representative. In other words, the number of state representatives on the 11-member board could rise from six to seven.

First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov will temporarily keep his board membership.

Kommersant said Zubkov had proposed new board candidates in a letter to First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov on May 20.

Reports have also said former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, who now chairs the Nord Stream shareholders committee, could replace one of the state representatives on the Gazprom board.

The gas giant's new board will be elected at the AGM on June 30.
