Russian economy must be more resistant to external shocks - Putin

MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - Russia needs accelerated development of every non-raw material sector, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at the first social business forum on Thursday.

"We must drastically increase our ability to resist various kinds of external shocks. We must strengthen the economic foundation of state sovereignty and make our economy technologically independent," he said.

Hence, Russia puts the emphasis on the development of the domestic market. "We need accelerated development of every non-raw material sector," the premier said.

It is the question of modern industries capable of manufacturing products in demand in Russia and in the world, he said.

Cost efficiency, demand, rate of return and investments are the main principles of the modern economy, Putin said.

"Business may become the main locomotive force, the driver of this development. Only business, the state may help and create conditions," he said.
