Lukashenko vows to prevent "lawless sale" of Belarus

MINSK. May 27 (Interfax) - The Belarusian government will not support any mass privatization of state owned assets despite the country's economic difficulties, President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"There will not be any lawless sale of the country. No one will buy anything - neither MAZ, Belkaliy, BelAZ nor BMZ - without my knowledge," Lukashenko said at a session addressing the present-day situation on the Belarusian currency and consumer goods market.

"Amid this media frenzy, some politicians from abroad are lining up to yell that Lukashenko will begin selling assets of the most marketable enterprises tomorrow," the president said.

"They even started to name figures - $7.5 billion," he said.

"I will not sell even one asset for this sum. I want the first one standing in this line to shout to the last person in it: Go home! Nothing will be sold, especially for next to nothing," Lukashenko said.
