Kazakh official, French finance minister both good candidates for IMF leadership - Putin
NOVO-OGARYOVO. May 27 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said he finds the initial information on the situation with former IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn hard to believe and said he believes the French finance minister is quite an acceptable candidate for the post.
"It's difficult for me to evaluate the political background, and I don't even want to tough upon this issue, but I can't believe the situation was really the way it was initially presented," Putin told reporters.
Putin added that different candidates for the post are being discussed, including a candidate from Kazakhstan, who is "a good specialist."
"They are also discussing the candidacy of the French finance minister, who is of course quite an acceptable candidate," Putin said.
