Khodorkovsky intends to request release on parole

MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - Former Yukos CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky sentenced to 13 years of jail on charges of oil theft and money-laundering intends to use his right to be released on parole.

"His answers to questions from the program were announced on NTV [channel] yesterday. He said he would try to use his right for release on parole," Khodorkovsky's attorney Vadim Klyuvgant told Interfax.

He said that the possibility of filing a plea for release on parole has been discussed by the defense many times. "There are all the grounds for that. There is only one criterion for filing a plea: in our case it is that a person has served half of his term," the attorney said.

Klyuvgant did not go into the details of the time when his client could file the plea.
