Yunnan boosts power sales to Guangdong in first four months
Shanghai. May 30. INTERFAX-CHINA - Southern China's Yunnan Province boosted power sales to Guangdong Province 60.27 percent year-on-year, to 6.29 terawatt hours (TWh) in the first four months of the year, according to statistics released by the Yunnan Electricity Power Corporation (YEPC) May 30.
Hydropower-rich Yunnan began expanding power sales to Guangdong over the past two months to combat power shortages in the Pearl River Delta region, a massive manufacturing hub, YEPC said.
Yunnan sold 67 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity to Guangdong on March 21. Since May 4, daily power sales have exceeded 100 GWh, according to the YEPC statistics.
YEPC said that the annual summer flooding season would increase Yunnan's hydropower production beginning in June. As a result, Yunnan could further expand its power sales to Guangdong and other neighboring power-hungry provinces.
