Atomenergomash qualifies for Moroccan power plant tender
MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - Russia's Atomenergomash has passed the pre-qualifying round for biding at a tender to build a pilot 100 MW thermal power plant, which will source its fuel at the Tarfaya oil shale deposit in southwest Morocco, the company said.
The Tarfaya field contains 22 billion barrels of oil.
Atomenergomash, represented by OJSC ZiO-Podolsk , will bid in a consortium of Russian and international companies.
Atomenergomash, which counts North Africa among its priority markets, has also submitted proposals to modernize three turbines at the Jerada plant, boosting the capacity of each from 50 to 225 MW.
The Russian company has already applied to bid at a tender to build a new, 300 MW coal powered generating unit at the Jerada plant. The two projects combined will bolster the plant's capacity 6.5-fold from 150 to almost 1,000 MW.
Investment in the Jerada plant could exceed EUR 1 billion.
