Hualan Bio opens blood collection station in Chongqing Municipality

Shanghai. May 31. INTERFAX-CHINA - Hualan Bioengineering Chongqing Co. Ltd. (Hualan Bio Chongqing) has opened a blood collection station in Chongqing Municipality's Pengshui County, a representative of the firm's parent company, Hualan Biological Engineering Inc. (Hualan Bio), told Interfax May 31.

"We now have 17 blood collection stations, and expect to get a license for another one in Chongqing this year," said a Hualan Bio employee surnamed Wang.

The company increased its focus on Chongqing in the past three years, opening stations in Wulong, Zhongxian, Kaixian, Tongnan, and Wuxi counties within the municipality.

Each blood station usually generates about 30 tons of blood plasma annually, Wang said.

Hualan Bio targeted the processing of approximately 400 tons of plasma into blood products last year.

"We aim to increase production and sales of human immunoglobulin, which has a higher value-add than human albumin," Wang said.

Hualan Bio's human immunoglobulin sales surged 90.59 percent last year to hit RMB 274.16 million ($42.31 million), compared to sales of RMB 301.50 million ($46.53 million) for human albumin, up 14.63 percent.

Hualan Bio is listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. It mainly produces blood products, and also operates collection stations in Henan and Guizhou provinces.
