Russia could appeal against ECHR's Khodorkovsky ruling - official

MOSCOW. May 31 (Interfax) - Russia will exercise its right to appeal against the decision by the European Court of Human Rights about violation of the rights of former Yukos chief Mikhail Khodorkovsky during his arrest as part of the first case inquiry, should it find grounds for doing so.

"Under the Convention, we have three months to appeal. If there are grounds, we will carefully study them and will definitely [file the appeal]," Russia's envoy to the ECHR Georgy Matyushkin told Interfax.

"To assess the prospects, of course, first we need to read and carefully study the decision, and only then decide," Matyushkin said.

The ECHR decision can be appealed by the parties with the court's Grand Chamber. Once it is through that procedure, the ruling shall be deemed effective, unless it is repealed.
