Gazprom, CNPC close gap on gas-price positions

BEIJING. May 31 (Interfax) - Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have narrowed the gap in their positions on price for gas during discussions of a contract planned for signing in the middle of this year, a source close to CNPC management told Interfax.

There was success achieved during the negotiations in Moscow between Gazprom management and CNPC Vice President Wang Dongjinm he said. "But a difference still persists," he said.

CNPC is hoping that this problem will be resolved during the current Moscow energy dialog, he said.

In line with a roadmap signed by the two countries' governments, the signing of a contract for deliveries of gas to China should take place before July 1 this year.

The talks between Gazprom and CNPC over the terms of gas supplies have been very lengthy.

Earlier, deputy Gazprom CEO Alexander Medvedev said the parties had agreed the structure of a pricing formula. He said the difference in approaches to price for gas is less than $100 per cubic meters.
