Russian-Italian relations have successful future - Medvedev
MOSCOW. June 1 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has sent a congratulatory letter to his Italian counterpart Giorgio Napolitano on the occasion of the Republic Day and the 150th anniversary since the formation of the Italian state, the Kremlin said on Wednesday.
"It is with satisfaction that I note the intensive and dynamic nature of the Russian-Italian relations. Our regular contacts, and frank and meaningful conversations have an important significance for their further development," Medvedev said in the letter released by his press office on Wednesday.
"Such a keen and close cooperation allows us to more fully reveal the significant potential of our bilateral cooperation, both in terms of deepening the political dialogue, and in terms of trade and investment, industry and energy, as well as through scientific and cultural exchanges," the congratulatory letter said.
"I am certain that Russia and Italy will continue to further cooperate closely both in the bilateral format and on the international arena, for the benefit of people of our countries and in the interests of strengthening global stability and security," the letter said.
"A unique illustrative example demonstrating the high level of our partnership is the conducting of cross-years of culture and languages, which were launched at a ceremony in Rome in February 2011," Medvedev said.
"Russia has a deep respect for the way Italy cherishes its national traditions and preserves its rich historical heritage. We know by our own experience that such a responsible attitude towards one's own history is an important factor of strengthening national unity," the letter said.
It was reported that from June 1-2, President Medvedev will pay a working visit to Rome at Napolitano's invitation to attend festivities on the occasion of the 150th anniversary since the Italian unification.
