Kazakhstan steps up sanitary control due to E-coli outbreak in Europe

ASTANA. June 3 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan is taking measures to prevent the appearance of the E-coli infection following the outbreak in Germany.

"The chief sanitary inspector of Kazakhstan has issued an order to step up measures for the prophylaxis of acute intestinal infection, strengthening of sanitary control over drinking water, food product sales, increasing sanitary awareness among the population," the Ministry of Healthcare said in a statement on Friday.

The spread of acute intestinal infection continues in Europe. Over 1,000 people have been infected in Germany. The death toll is at least 17.
