Russian monetary base in broad definition slips by 0.2% to 7.269 trln rubles in May

MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - Russia's monetary base in broad definition decreased by 0.2% to 7.269 billion rubles from 7.285 trillion rubles, the Central Bank of Russia said in information posted on its website.

The Russian money base shrank by 11.3% in January-May 2011 from 8.19 trillion rubles as of January 1.

In annual terms, the money base increased by 6% from 6.849 trillion as of June 2010. The annual growth rate slowed from 26.6% on January 1 to 7.2% as of May 1.

The broad monetary base includes cash issued by the Central Bank, the balance on reserve accounts in the Central Bank, correspondent accounts and bank deposits in the Central Bank, investment by banks in Central Bank bonds, and other obligations of the Central Bank on operations with banks in the national currency.
