U.S. Bonsmara breeder to help Gansu Province beef up cattle industry

Beijing. June 9. INTERFAX-CHINA - Bonsmara Natural Beef Co., a U.S. cattle breeder, has signed an agreement with the Gansu provincial department of agriculture to help the western province develop its growing cattle industry, state media reported June 9.

Gansu will introduce and market Bonsmara cattle across the province, according to an official Xinhua news agency report, citing Wu Wenbin, director of the agricultural department.

Gansu has invested RMB 600 million ($92.60 million) since 2009 to spur development of its cattle and sheep industry, the report said. The province sold one million cows and nine million sheep last year.

The Bonsmara is a breed of cattle originating from South Africa and known for its high-quality beef.
