Kazakhstan boosts steel production 26% in 5 mths

ALMATY. June 14 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan produced 2.069 million tonnes of crude steel in January-May, 2011, up 26.1% year-on-year, the State Statistics Agency said.

Output of flat steel products rose 22.4% to 1.37 million tonnes, production of galvanized steel grew 8.4% to 256,031 tonnes and production of tin-plate and tin-plated sheet increased 8.4% to 256,031 tonnes.

Ferroalloy production rose 0.8% year-on-year to 706,616 tonnes.

Crude iron ore production rose 3.1% to 20.8 million tonnes, manganese ore production rose 0.9% to 1.153 million tonnes and chrome ore grew 8.2% to 2.228 million tonnes.

Kazakhstan raised iron ore pellet production 3.9% year-on-year in the 5M to 3.75 million tonnes.
