Putin suggests holding intl conference on ILO standards in Russia

GENEVA. June 15 (Interfax) - Russia could a hold a conference on workers' rights under the aegis of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in the fall of 2012, said Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

"We have a concrete proposal: to conduct a high-level international conference on the practical implementation of the ILO standards laid down in the Decent Work concept in Russia next autumn," Putin said at the 100th session of the ILO in Geneva on Wednesday.

Hopefully, the Russian initiative will find backing among the ILO members, he said.

The ILO was founded in 1919. The ILO became the first specialized agency of the UN in 1946.

During its existence, the organization adopted 187 conventions and protocols regarded as international treaties. Russia is a party to 56 of them.
