Sichuan Province faces power cuts this summer

Shanghai. June 17. INTERFAX-CHINA - Western China's Sichuan Province is facing potential power shortages during the summer peak consumption period, the Sichuan Electricity Power Corp. (SEPC) warned June 16.

Sichuan's daily power generation capacity currently stands at 460 gigawatt hours (GWh), while the province's peak daily power demand is expected to reach 500 GWh this summer, SEPC said.

The SEPC said it would prioritize power supplies to government agencies, hospitals, public transportation systems and residences over industrial and commercial usage.

The company also said that it would expand its power purchase from central and northwestern China to fill the gap.
