Russia-China gas talks not failure - source (repeat)

ST. PETERSBURG. June 17. INTERFAX-CHINA - The Russia-China gas contract negotiations will be continued, sources told Interfax.

"The Russian-Chinese gas talks are not a failure and they will be continued," he said.

"The problem is not that we have not been able to set a price for gas. The problem is much broader. Our main task and goal is to forge a long-term agreement on cooperation in the energy sector. Therefore, the parties have a big stake not only in defining a formula for calculating the price, but also in covering the level of gas intake, the price and many others components. We are trying to come to terms on a number of issues," the source said.

"Therefore, it would be wrong to claim that the talks were a failure. The parties are looking for a comprehensive approach to the problem of cooperation in the energy sector. Defining a formula for gas price will be easier then," he said.
