Prokhorov vows Right Cause will try to get to truth in Magnitsky death case

MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - Tycoon Mikhail Prokhorov promised that Russia's Right Cause party, which elected him as its leader on Saturday, would try to investigate the 2009 death in jail of Sergei Magnitsky, a lawyer for British hedge fund Hermitage Capital.

"There are no words to describe the Magnitsky case. It has to do with our judiciary system. Not a single official has been called to account. It's outrageous," Prokhorov told a news conference on Saturday. "We will definitely be investigating this."

Magnitsky, 37, died in Moscow's Matrosskaya Tishina detention center after being arrested on a tax evasion charge. His death set off powerful public reverberations. The Russian Investigative Committee launched an investigation. Potential suspects would be charged with negligence and failure to give medical assistance to a patient.
